We are just starting out …
Affordable Art SA will be an all-in-one stop for artists and buyers. An online marketplace like no other, AffordableArt.co.za focuses exclusively on promoting and showcasing all the variety that South African artists have to offer.
Mzansi’s art reserves are as plentiful as its natural resources, but artists often struggle to find affordable outlets that exhibit to a wide audience – even in the online sphere. Affordable Art SA now aims to fill that gap, while providing a space where artists and art lovers can connect.
AffordableArt.co.za’s classifieds give artists the opportunity to market their work to a wide online audience, both locally and abroad, giving them valuable exposure, albeit in a cost-effective way that does not overburden limited marketing budgets.
We offer free monthly packages to explore our art classifieds and additional affordable subscription packages thereafter. There are no commission charges involved in the sale of artworks, as transactions are conducted directly between the buyer and the seller.
Whichever medium artists work in, Affordable Art SA provides a platform to get word about the work out. We offer online exhibition space to artists in any of the following categories and their sub-categories:
- Mixed Media
- Computer Graphics
- Digital Drawing
- Digital Illustration
- Digital Painting
- Digital Prints
- Graphic Design
Affordable Art SA’s extensive, art-only search criteria categories introduces buyers to the wide range of local art that is available, while also allowing them to narrow their search for something more specific. Searches can also be conducted according to geographic location. In order to widen the scope of South African art even further, we also accommodate local galleries across the country – all easily searchable via this central platform.
Keep an eye on AffordableArt.co.za for monthly competitions, an extensive catalogue of South African art and a new and continuously expanding list of galleries all over the country.
Art as therapy
AffordableArt.co.za isn’t just a one-stop shop catering to the artists and art afficionados of the rainbow nation – we also believe in the valuable role art has in a therapeutic sense. Becoming an accredited art therapist requires the completion of an Honours and a Master’s degree in Psychology, together with the equivalent of one year’s full-time work experience in community, health education or welfare, alongside some personal therapy experience. Accreditation can only be gained after completing the final two-year Master’s qualification, which can only be done at a number of international institutions. The Art SA Forward Fund was set up in order to empower aspiring art therapists in gaining the necessary qualifications, so that they can use art to empower others.
This section of our monthly blog will be allocated, where we will discuss the principles of art therapy, together with its practices and applications with regards to mental health.
